Viva…sort it out

2 Nov

Why the hell are VIVA blocking out websites that aren’t even pornographic?! There is nothing wrong with them!!!

Tried to get on http://www.expatriates.com as sometimes they sell stuff there which is actually pretty decent, western expats selling stuff that has only been used once or twice because they are leaving.

This is just silly.

SORT IT OUT VIVA.

Update: Ok, pretty impressive, VIVA got back to me within 10minutes of posting this, with this………

”Dear Babble

Thanks for your interest in VIVA internet , we will check and get back to you shortly.

Best Regards
VIVA Online Team”

THEN I GOT THIS

”Dear Babble Q8

we Have this Blocked by the ministry Of communications

Thanks again for using viva internet”

Now, here is my question. Why are the Ministry of Communications blocking websites that are actually helping others?

This particular website is one which is very useful to expats who have recently arrived in Kuwait. This website gives advice re: malls, locations of churches/mosques and other tourist attractions………MOC- WHY ARE YOU BLOCKING A FAMILY FRIENDLY WEBSITE?

It’s not just Viva… it’s all internet connections. The same is happening with me. I was selling stuff and wanted to post them on expatriates.com, but I got the stupid “Access Prohibited”!

I reverted to KuwaitFridayMarket.com, expats.com and justlanded.com. Try them out, you might some decent stuff there.

And what was their reason for blocking that?
It’s a website used by expats worldwide who move to different countries. There was advice on there re; churches , mosques, places to eat, malls etc………..

I just checked the site out with Q-Net, and it’s also blocked by them… Do u think that someone was selling drinks or stuff over there? That mite be the reason… I still don’t agree to block a whole site just for something that small and little…

But have you seen the guys who work at the M.O. Communication or Information? I don’t think they even have college degrees 😦

I doubt it hun, probably just being silly… dating or watever bes…it’s actually an ok kind of site… full of info for non-kuwaitis living here.

If MOC is blocking those websites, then why aren’t other ISPs blocking the websites?

Quality net has a lot of non-pornographic, obviously, websites unblocked, while other ISPs (Viva) blocking them?

I have been using the Viva internet stick ever since they launched it and I have no interest in switching it, but it would be nice to access certain websites without going through the trouble of proxies and whatnot.

Many torrent websites are blocked, and so are some livejournals for no apparent reason.

I totally agree with you, Fahad. I have contacted them and I got the same reply, ‘it’s not us, it’s the ministry of c’ …
It seems like they are going, ‘eenie meenie miny mo’ – ok, block that one…
      It’s random…
What’s going to happen next? Certain blogs…. jewaira’s blog has already ‘vanished’. I try to access it and i get the ‘viva has blocked this page’ nonsense.
I’ve been with Viva since they launched and like you, i have no interest in switching BUT, if they start this crap, I won’t have any other choice.
