Thanks to Fahad

24 Nov

So, everyone knows that Fahad went LIVE and it’s great news for all of us.

I want to personally THANK Fahad for the time that he takes to help all of us and answer those questions that we need answered.

Please remember, Fahad is doing this FREE.

He has a business to run and spends alot of his free time giving out tips/advice. We really appreciate it Fahad and thanks for shedding light on diet and exercise and making it not so ‘taboo’ to talk about.

We shouldn’t be ashamed if we have gained a few kilos (or more!!). We should be happy that we realise we need to change. We need to go ‘back to how we were before’.Without you, it might not have been possible. Thanks again.

Fahad has some great articles over on his site on how you can achieve your goal. Be nice to him and always remember to say THANK YOU!

What colour is your poo?

24 Nov

How many clicked this on Twitter just to see what the heck I was going to write…well, as disgusting as this post might seem to you. This is a serious topic. What colour is your poo? It’s an embarassing subject for many but the colour and texture of your poo determines alot about your health.

Normal adult bowel motions described
Characteristics of the normal, healthy bowel motion include:

  • Bowel motions should be firm, moist and easy to pass (guys if you spend 30minutes in the bathroom, you have a problem)
  • Regularity differs from one person to the next – the range of ‘normal’ includes once per week to several times every day, depending on the individual.
  • Bowel motions are brown because they contain bile pigments (stercobilin).
  • Bacteria use chemical reactions to break down the faeces. These chemical reactions produce smelly compounds like hydrogen sulphide, which account for the characteristic odour.

Changes in colour
Healthy bowel motions are brown. If your faeces change colour, seek medical attention immediately, as some of the causes may include serious illnesses. Common colour changes and their range of possible causes include:

  • Red – blood smears on the toilet paper are usually caused by haemorrhoids or anal fissures. Bright red blood in the faeces (haemotochezia) usually means internal bleeding, and the causes could include bowel cancer or a bleeding stomach ulcer.
  • Black – one of the most common causes of black faeces is taking iron supplements. However, bleeding higher up in the digestive tract, such as from the oesophagus or stomach, can cause the faeces to appear black (melena). The cause could include bleeding from an ulcer.
  • Maroon – blood is the usual cause of maroon-coloured faeces. Some of the causes can include bleeding from the bowel – often from diverticulosis, angiodysplasia (abnormal and leaky blood vessels in the intestinal lining) or bowel cancer.
  • Cream or light coloured – light-coloured faeces usually means that bile salts are absent. This could be caused by a range of digestive diseases affecting the pancreas, gall bladder or liver. Hepatitis, for example, can make the faeces appear silver, white, grey or yellow.

Changes in texture
Healthy bowel motions are firm and moist. Common texture changes and their range of possible causes include:

  • Watery – short bouts of diarrhoea can be caused by a range of factors, including food poisoning, gastroenteritis and anxiety. Chronic diarrhoea can be a symptom of more serious illnesses such as coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulosis or bowel cancer. It can also be caused by medication, diet (high fibre diets, coffee and diet soft drinks can cause diarrhoea) and, frequently, from irritable bowel syndrome. Lactose intolerance can also cause diarrhoea, often with cramping and wind.
  • Hard and dry – when you are constipated, bowel motions tend to be hard, dry and uncomfortable to pass. Common causes of constipation include a low fibre diet, and some medications. Constipation can cause haemorrhoids to produce symptoms because of the straining involved to pass a hard, dry motion.
  • Stringy – parasitic infections of the gut can cause bowel motions to become thin and stringy. For example, worms can affect the faeces in this way.
  • Greasy – a high fat meal can result in fatty, smelly faeces that tend to float in the toilet bowl. However, the constant passage of greasy stools could indicate a problem with fat digestion.

So, there you have it. Happy Toileting!

The real reason behind Morning Sickness

19 Nov

Guys, you can skip this post and move on to the next OR you can read it and share your thoughts.

Morning sickness, that dreaded thing that creeps up on your when you are pregnant…if you are lucky you will experience a few weeks at most but unfortunately for me, I had 9 months of it. At one stage it got so severe that I had to go to the hospital.

On average I was vomitting 9 times a day…on one particular day, I recall 15 times. This is a condition called Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe morning sickness). My obstetrician could give me no reason as to why I was being sick so much. I was prescribed with anti-sickness tablets which I was reluctant to take. It wasn’t pleasant and was quite scary. My throat felt raw, the enamel on my teeth was starting to erode. It was a truly horrible experience and that upset me. Pregnancy is supposed to be one of the best experiences of your life, all I have to say is I was glad to see that delivery room.

It got me thinking this morning, what IS the reason behind it?

Looking back, I had a normal diet, no different than any other pregnancy woman. I craved chocolate and all the other bad things you should crave but I also ate veg, fruit and had a ‘somewhat balanced diet’. I gained around 15kilo during my pregnancy -yes, alot. the average is 10…my baby arrived and was a dainty wee thing. Weighed just over 2kilo and I was full term when I delivered.

My reasoning for this post is …my baby is now lactose intolerant and it has got me thinking. Is that why I was sick so much? At the time, my baby was refusing all the ‘dairy products’ that were going into my body?

Anyone else had similiar experience? Did you eat alot of something and very little of something else? Was there anything particular that made you sick?

I always seemed to vomit after having tomatoes. I cut those out after my first trimester.

It’s an interesting angle to ‘morning sickness’…what if it is caused by a lactose intolerant foetus?

A simple search on google will bring you up thousands of questions:

‘Did you become lactose intolerant during pregnancy?’ – What if the answer is simple, it’s not you that is intolerant, it’s your foetus.

Just a thought to all women out there suffering from morning sickness, try cutting out your dairy products, you might be pleasantly surprised. I wish now I had thought of it. Next pregnancy it will be no dairy for me and calcium supplements!

Arabomber on Girls…

2 Nov

Remember a few days ago, I posted the ‘How to be Kuwaitia’ …well…guess what! This guy has FINALLY got a blog AND it’s up and running RIGHT NOW! Yayy!

And ladies…he also did an interview with Desert Blvd..

Here’s what he had to say:

What do you see in your Future Wife? Personality and looks wise

VA: Oh man… here we go with the tough questions lol. It’s like how to be a millionaire the higher you go, the harder it gets.
Ill sum it all up in one step baby.
– A lady in the streets and a freak in the sheets. WOO!
Ok long pause… awkwardness fades slowly.
No, seriously.
Just off the top of my head, of what I see in the perfect wife.
1) Loving & caring to kids (I love kids, if I had a choice the more kids the better.)
2) Open-minded but respects her culture and her roots.
3) Someone who seems to fit in with my family, juuuust right. Like a missing puzzle piece.
4) Not a party girl. Hate them. Miami too many, ble5.
5) Not your typical Kuwaiti girl, I like them casual, none of that dress up EVERYDAY crap. I would love to see one day in Kuwait, a girl that just wear a pair of jeans and a shirt. (Sexiest thing ever in my book) It’s nice to dress up for sure, but everyday… is just pushing it.
6) Doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty, kick it and play some ball.
7) Hate, hate, haaaate make up. Just like you don’t want to be touching a head of hair filled with gel, I don’t want to be wiping off your mask when I touch your face…. I know girls that are absolutely beautiful without makeup, and they just have to ruin it. Once again, don’t mind it once in a while. It’s the everyday that kills it.
8) I hit the gym, I do my part, tend to be pretty active. Would be nice if she kind of put in the effort too. Put in your fair share of squats you know what I’m saying, keep that booty tight LOL. (Ugh.. a lil too much info..) I don’t eat any fast food, pretty strict healthy diet. So yeah.
9) When you say physical trait its tough to say, Cause I honestly don’t have a specific requirement. All I want is someone who looks after herself. How big your cha-chas play no role in being my wife.
(Man… I hope my mom doesn’t read this lol.)
10) The last step and most important one: “Good hearted.” Underline and bold this baby.
Maaaaan this is sooo important. Truly believe that this world is created with two types of people. People who are evil selfish, and just plain evil! And then you have the good-hearted compassionate people, its something I can just tell off the bat, I call it the “vibe” If I get a good vibe from you then we heading the right way. Just Good hearted.
Ok now I’m speaking gibberish.
To sum it all up: Personality:
-Goodhearted.
-Open minded.
-Loving & caring.
-Honesty. Have to be honest with each other.
Physical:
-Takes care of herself
-Not always dressed up, casual wear.
-Make up = Icky

So, there you have it……… NO makeup, not always dressed up ( I DITTO THAT (VA) I HATE GIRLS THAT GO SHOPPING IN HEELS!! WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH THAT?! FAKE, FAKE, FAKE …and I am a girl ! ) LOL

Thanks, SubwayMum!

2 Nov

Thanks to SubwayMum I got some very useful information this morning!

So, we all know, I’ve started my diet AND yes, I’m taking Lipo 6 which by the way is going ok. I have loads of energy, no sick feeling, no headaches and inshallah it will stay that way.

I was thinking of getting a treadmill, went last night, looked around and just didn’t see any that I liked. Nasser Sports in Salmiya had two. One was priced at 148 and the other 98. They looked quite bulky but the run strip just didn’t seem wide enough. Hubby tried them and agreed. We decided we would wait and check out the Sport’s shops up near Qurain. Anyway, this morning Subwaymum said, ‘why a treadmill? why not get a elliptical cross trainer? Treadmills are terrible for your knees! I had always assumed that a treadmill was best, nothing can shift fat like a good run. But, after some research I am wrong.

A quick comparison:

When you compare treadmills to elliptical trainers, you can’t help but notice that the elliptical trainer offers an impact-free workout. With the elliptical, there is no impact on the ground, which may appeal to people who need a gentler workout because of joint problems or pain. The treadmill offers more impact, which helps strengthen the bones.

One obvious point that is in favor of treadmills is that it provides a better training experience for a dedicated runner/jogger than an elliptical trainer. If you are training for a marathon or even a 10k, and you don’t want to go outdoors too often during the colder months, you are certainly better off with a quality treadmill.

That being said, if you are looking for a quality cardiovascular workout with the maximum amount of efficiency, the elliptical is an excellent choice. Most elliptical trainers give you a total body workout if you have dual action handlebars for your arms and foot pedals for your legs, whereas treadmills focus more on your lower body as they simulate the jogging experience.

So, there you have it…the cross trainer seems like a better choice.

Thanks, Subwaymom, you saved me my knees and a whole load of cash since the cross trainers are much cheaper too!
