As a child, I didn’t watch much TV

24 Nov

First of all, I’m a mum. I let my kid watch TV. I don’t see the harm in it. Of course, I would never let him/her  sit in front of the TV all day but, he/she does get 30minutes in the morning and 30minutes in the afternoon.

How do you feel about it?

I have researched alot on this subject and too much television has been linked to ADHD, OCD, Autism. So, what’s your view?

Does it? Is it detrimental to your child? Is it my responsibility to not let my kids watch TV?

I think 30minutes a day does no harm when they are young and when my kids are old enough to go to school, I will reward them with 30minutes TV a day IF and WHEN they finish their homework.

As a child, I didn’t sit and watch TV after school, I went out for walks, rode my bicycle and visited friends houses and played ‘teacher/pupil’ or ‘families’…On a Saturday, I was allowed to watch TV from 8 – 10am and that was it, I was sent outside to play. I’m glad that my parents did raise me that way, even now, I’m not a ‘TV’ person. I rarely sit down to watch anything. I have, of course, my favourites series which I would never miss, but I would never sit down at 5 in front of the TV and spend the night in front of it. That would drive me crazy. Instead, I go out with hubby shopping, go for walks, blog, read a book or listen to music.

Anyway, I’ve kind of gone off what I was talking about, what do you think?

Does TV do more damage than good?

The real reason behind Morning Sickness

19 Nov

Guys, you can skip this post and move on to the next OR you can read it and share your thoughts.

Morning sickness, that dreaded thing that creeps up on your when you are pregnant…if you are lucky you will experience a few weeks at most but unfortunately for me, I had 9 months of it. At one stage it got so severe that I had to go to the hospital.

On average I was vomitting 9 times a day…on one particular day, I recall 15 times. This is a condition called Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe morning sickness). My obstetrician could give me no reason as to why I was being sick so much. I was prescribed with anti-sickness tablets which I was reluctant to take. It wasn’t pleasant and was quite scary. My throat felt raw, the enamel on my teeth was starting to erode. It was a truly horrible experience and that upset me. Pregnancy is supposed to be one of the best experiences of your life, all I have to say is I was glad to see that delivery room.

It got me thinking this morning, what IS the reason behind it?

Looking back, I had a normal diet, no different than any other pregnancy woman. I craved chocolate and all the other bad things you should crave but I also ate veg, fruit and had a ‘somewhat balanced diet’. I gained around 15kilo during my pregnancy -yes, alot. the average is 10…my baby arrived and was a dainty wee thing. Weighed just over 2kilo and I was full term when I delivered.

My reasoning for this post is …my baby is now lactose intolerant and it has got me thinking. Is that why I was sick so much? At the time, my baby was refusing all the ‘dairy products’ that were going into my body?

Anyone else had similiar experience? Did you eat alot of something and very little of something else? Was there anything particular that made you sick?

I always seemed to vomit after having tomatoes. I cut those out after my first trimester.

It’s an interesting angle to ‘morning sickness’…what if it is caused by a lactose intolerant foetus?

A simple search on google will bring you up thousands of questions:

‘Did you become lactose intolerant during pregnancy?’ – What if the answer is simple, it’s not you that is intolerant, it’s your foetus.

Just a thought to all women out there suffering from morning sickness, try cutting out your dairy products, you might be pleasantly surprised. I wish now I had thought of it. Next pregnancy it will be no dairy for me and calcium supplements!

Kuwait hospitals on alert

16 Nov

According to the Kuwait Times Kuwait hospitals are on alert for possible outbreaks of swine flu (now known as H1N1)

Well, a worker from the hospital has anonymously spoken to the Kuwait Times…well that’s just silly because, aren’t hospitals ALWAYS on alert?

Of course, winter season is coming in, flu season hits us all hard so I think instead of reporting ‘silly’ things, the Kuwait Times would be better printing an article ADVISING the public to be on alert and INFORMING them of ways to stay safe…yani, wrap up warm, use hand sanitizer where possible and trash all used tissues.

Here’s some of the article

”Hospitals in Kuwait have been put on alert for a possible resurgence of the swine flu (H1N1) virus, according to a hospital official. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the staff member at a local state hospital told the Kuwait Times yesterday, “The hospital is on alert because there is one confirmed case [of swine flu], but I don’t want to mention where or what hospital the patient is being treated in right now.” The hospital worker added that a memo was recently circulated to all the country’s
hospitals advising all medical staff to expect possible swine flu cases, especially at the onset of winter.”

a random thought

Why is the big red, white and blue country spending billions sending troops to afghanistan/pakistan/ (goodness knows where else) when there are children in africa starving to death.
How is it that so much money can be spent on wars and destruction, destruction that is not actually needed. Why not fix something that is actually ‘broken’? Instead, YOU, yes, YOU being the *blank* *blank* are spending millions on crap, basically.
Michael Jackson was right. We need to save this planet, protect it, make it better. How about by starting with the poor? Feed them. Give them clothes and fresh drinking water.
How about troops going on strike? Refusing to join? Why do these guys keep going to fight unnecessary battles? There is no war on terror. Leave these countries alone and maybe they will leave you alone too. What do you think? You reading this, Mr O?

5 little letters…

1 Nov

There is a word that we all may say, that we don’t hear often enough. Sorry – an expression, a regret.

What does it mean to say sorry? Why should you say sorry? When should you say sorry?

First and foremost, saying sorry shouldn’t come naturally, it shouldn’t fall off the end of your tongue like please and thank you. You cant fuck up and then say sorry. The world doesn’t work like that. America didn’t bomb iraq and then say, ‘oh, we’re sorry’. You must face the consequences of your actions.

People get hurt. People feel ashamed. People feel neglected. People feel all sorts of things when you make a mistake. Saying sorry doesn’t make it all ok. Life can’t just ‘roll on’. You can’t just ‘pick up’ where you left of.

Sorry is an easy word. You bang into someone in the supermarket, ‘Oh, I’m sorry love’.

When it comes to relationships, it is different.

Here are a few examples:

A friend told me: I found my husband ‘chatting’ with girls online but he said, ‘sorry’. – and that makes it ok? sorry, makes everything ok? No, it doesn’t.

Another friend found her husband had lost his job and was leaving the house everyday and going to a cafe to ‘pretend’ he was going to work. When she found out, he said, ‘sorry, but I didn’t want you to feel ashamed of me’. – this ‘sorry’, is ok. This ‘sorry’ came from the heart. The reason this man didn’t tell his wife was because of shame. In the above story of the ‘online flirt’, the husband didn’t tell the wife because ‘he thought it was enough, he thought his little online obsession would never ‘get out’.

Well, gentlemen, sometimes SORRY isn’t enough. why? Because there is so much more that sometimes need fixed.

You forget that men and women are built differently.

We aren’t meant to feel the same. Women are much more sensitive than men, why? who knows? perhaps, it comes down to the fact we are the child-bearers. We are the queens of the house.

There is TRUST, LOYALTY and RESPECT. Those need FIXED also during a time of betrayal.

A two hour long arguing session cannot end in, ‘I’m sorry’.

A discussion needs to take place. Two people must have the floor to talk. It must come from both sides and the problem must be addressed. The reasons behind the problem must be address and the conclusion as to how to get ‘over’ the problem must be attempted to be accomplished. Things don’t get fixed in five minutes. They aren’t supposed to. Sometimes they take months. Sometimes there isn’t always an answer. There has to be a mutual agreement. One person cannot make a ‘flat out’ yes or no answer.

Yes, to some extent there should be a decision maker BUT it’s hard to choose who. Some might say, it’s the male’s choice, some might say, no it’s the females. Religion and Culture should not even enter the equation.

What you both want from your marriage, your future and for your kids should be the equation.

Your family and her family shouldn’t enter the subject either.

Whether she respects your family or you respect hers doesn’t even matter.

Your family is YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY. That’s a husband, a wife and children. NO INLAWS OR OUTLAWS.

Marriage is more than a piece of paper. It’s a contract. Bound for life. In sickness and in health. For richer or for poorer. All marriages have ups and downs. Life has lots of crossroads…it’s your choice which road you choose to take.
