Tonight’s episode of Oprah really made me cry…

22 Nov

I don’t watch Oprah too much but, tonight, I did.
The episode was …ooof, really, really sad.
A lady, a mother had lost her three children in a horrific car accident. Her husband and her were saved and she wasn’t quite sure why until exactly one year later, she gave birth …………to triplets… a miracle?
Imagine. She lost three and exactly a year later , she gave birth to three.
It gets weirder.
She lost in the accident, 2 girls and a boy..
A year later, she gave birth to….2 girls and a boy..
Scary, very scary.

Another cool little invention for the iPhone…one of the main reasons I won’t get one is, being a girl with long nails makes using the touchscreen really difficult!

Well, here’s a solution!

Kuwait bans photography, pictures only to be taken by journalists

21 Nov

Late last night I found this article, I’m not sure how credible it is since it’s the LA Times but…they are reporting that in Kuwait, the government has announced plans to privatize phone and mail services while at the same time increasing censorship. It has begun shutting down all pornographic websites, and on Saturday, three ministries issued a joint ban on photography cameras with large lenses in public places.

It seems they got their info from here.

This is sad and very disappointing for all of us.

What I don’t understand is, why are we allowed to use mobile phones? They do the same thing. We can all take pictures with those?

Marriage and what it means to me…

19 Nov

In my opinion, marriage isn’t just a piece of paper. It’s a contract, an agreement between two people to spend the rest of their lives together…..and happily at that.We should never settle for ‘oh, I’ve married him now, I have to live with it.’ No, you don’t. If it’s that bad, leave. If not, make it work.

My first serious point is, The Wedding Band…don’t start quoting things to me or telling me about culture but personally, I think a wedding band is so important. Thankfully, my husband agreed. What do I think it means? And why do I think it is important? Well, there are a few reasons, it is clear to others that I am married, no longer available! In other words, DON’T BOTHER ME. It shows how important my marriage is. It’s a tiny thing, but it’s always there, always reminding me of the most important person in my life. AND for those exact reasons, I’m glad my husband wears one too…and note: the ‘how important my marriage is’ actually came from his mouth as I type this, I asked him, ‘why is your wedding ring important?’ He said, ‘it reminds me of how important my marriage is’.

Truth be told, it probably is that thing that stops men from making those little mistakes they shouldn’t make but some do.

Right, phew, now that’s out of the road, what next? Yes, ladies…

I think there are a few things that we forget.LADIES. Yes, this is directed at the ladies and for once, I’m making US out to be the ‘bad ones’.

Perhaps, we ‘let ourselves go’. Ladies, we forget the importance of ‘looking nice’, ‘wearing a little makeup’, even jewellery.

I’m not saying that these materialistic things matter BUT I do believe they have some importance.

Put yourself in your husband’s shoes. He comes home, find you in your pjs, trackie bottoms, makeup not done, hair looking like you could fry and egg on it…well, it’s not a very pretty site. Yes, of course, there are going to be days when you will be in trackie bottoms and he will love you just as much but every once in a while, make the effort.

As women, we are quick to blame the man for many, many things. We should all stop and think, sometimes, it IS our fault.

He married a ‘fun’, ‘loving’, woman…try and stay that way.

One problem that ‘crops’ up in marriage is children.

We tend to think we need to take our children EVERYWHERE with us. We don’t. We can arrange to leave them with family/friends and have those romantic nights out with our husbands. They need YOU, ALONE. It’s difficult to have ‘real’ adult conversation with kids around…infact, it’s almost impossible. What if your husband wants to say, ‘damn, you look hot today’…it will resort to ‘you look nice’ and then, we complain. Huh, he said, ‘nice, bes’ that was it…well, what else can he say in front of a 6 year old?

Time alone is VITAL.

Once or twice a week is CRUCIAL. Coffee dates, dinner dates, cinema, a walk on the beach…you are never too old.

Remember that couple that you saw sitting by the pier, eating fish and chips out of a paper bag that were in their 70’s…that is MY aim. I want to be that couple.

Most of us marry our best friends and learn to love them as a ‘title’…a husband or a wife. We all have our ups and downs but we must always remember the reason we fell in love in the first place.

What does marriage mean to you? I’m interested to know. The divorce rate in Kuwait is so high…why? And why can’t marriage be taken more seriously?

Spices that you MUST have in your cupboard this winter!

19 Nov

Winter IS here whether you all like it or not, you do actually have to get your jackets, cardies and uggs out, ladies! Summer is gone.

The horrible thing is , flu season is here.

Forget your local pharmacy, natural things are going to make you feel better faster and they are cheaper!

Here are a few spices that you MUST have in your cupboard.

Cayenne pepper – gets blood flowing, and speeds ups metabolism.

Rosemary – aids in lung functioning properly and will help with those nasty upper respiratory infections!

Scallions – thin mucous secretions & help sweat out fever

Jalapenos & red chili flakes – help open up nasal passages (say goodbye to those horrible Sinus problems!)

Onions and garlic – have amazing antibiotic properties and help again with thinning out mucous secretions. Studies have found that garlic has antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal, and antiprotozoal properties.

Ginger – Long appreciated as an aid to digestion, numerous studies have shown that it is effective against nausea. Ginger has also been shown to have antimicrobial and antiviral properties, so consuming it while you’re sick may help knock out whatever is ailing you. Add minced fresh ginger root to soup, or blend it into a Vitamin C-rich fruit smoothie!

Mint – Mint is a natural source of menthol, so a steaming cup of mint tea can actually help open clogged nasal passages and soothe sore throats, at least temporarily. Drinking it throughout the day may even help offset the need for dehydrating decongestants.

There are hundreds of spices out there that are good for you but these are the must have’s that you should be stocking up on for this winter season!

The real reason behind Morning Sickness

19 Nov

Guys, you can skip this post and move on to the next OR you can read it and share your thoughts.

Morning sickness, that dreaded thing that creeps up on your when you are pregnant…if you are lucky you will experience a few weeks at most but unfortunately for me, I had 9 months of it. At one stage it got so severe that I had to go to the hospital.

On average I was vomitting 9 times a day…on one particular day, I recall 15 times. This is a condition called Hyperemesis Gravidarum (severe morning sickness). My obstetrician could give me no reason as to why I was being sick so much. I was prescribed with anti-sickness tablets which I was reluctant to take. It wasn’t pleasant and was quite scary. My throat felt raw, the enamel on my teeth was starting to erode. It was a truly horrible experience and that upset me. Pregnancy is supposed to be one of the best experiences of your life, all I have to say is I was glad to see that delivery room.

It got me thinking this morning, what IS the reason behind it?

Looking back, I had a normal diet, no different than any other pregnancy woman. I craved chocolate and all the other bad things you should crave but I also ate veg, fruit and had a ‘somewhat balanced diet’. I gained around 15kilo during my pregnancy -yes, alot. the average is 10…my baby arrived and was a dainty wee thing. Weighed just over 2kilo and I was full term when I delivered.

My reasoning for this post is …my baby is now lactose intolerant and it has got me thinking. Is that why I was sick so much? At the time, my baby was refusing all the ‘dairy products’ that were going into my body?

Anyone else had similiar experience? Did you eat alot of something and very little of something else? Was there anything particular that made you sick?

I always seemed to vomit after having tomatoes. I cut those out after my first trimester.

It’s an interesting angle to ‘morning sickness’…what if it is caused by a lactose intolerant foetus?

A simple search on google will bring you up thousands of questions:

‘Did you become lactose intolerant during pregnancy?’ – What if the answer is simple, it’s not you that is intolerant, it’s your foetus.

Just a thought to all women out there suffering from morning sickness, try cutting out your dairy products, you might be pleasantly surprised. I wish now I had thought of it. Next pregnancy it will be no dairy for me and calcium supplements!

IMO: This ANIMAL should get the death sentence

19 Nov

Bully isn’t the word that should be used here.

Monster seems better fitting.

”A 6ft 2in “selfish bully” has been jailed for life for the murder of his partner’s 15-month-old daughter.”

It seems that the child started to cry while he was playing his Xbox…this angered him…he then proceed to stamp on the 15month years old’s head.

A post mortem confirmed she had at least 35 separate injuries on her face and body, rib fractures and brain damage.

I hope this ANIMAL never gets out of jail. This is when the death sentence should be in place…for animals like this who don’t deserve to walk the streets ever again.

Gary Alcock and Claire FlanaganThis is him. This is the mother. She stood by and watched as she quote ‘didn’t want to lose her boyfriend’. Remember these two faces and should you see them in 10, 20years, don’t forget to SPIT at them.
