80% of Kuwait are OVERWEIGHT.

26 Oct

In a health session held today, organizers of the better health initiative gethealthykuwait.com announced that they found 70% of women suffered from high cholesterol levels and 48% of female students under the age of 18 were overweight.

– The main reason for female students under the age of 18 being overweight is the fact that they just don’t get out enough! Go walking! Stop getting your drivers to drive you everywhere! Stop sitting in Sliderstation! 6 mini burgers will do you no good whatsoever!!

As for the high cholesterol levels – do what I did this week! THROW YOUR SALT IN THE BIN! YOU DONT NEED IT!!! KUWAITIS USE FAR TOO MUCH SALT…just yesterday, one of my own family members admitted she adds salt to a salad! What is that all about?! I’m happy to say that that particular family member has lost about 10kilo and has thrown her salt out! All for a healthier lifestyle!

According to the World Health Organization, over 80% of Kuwait is overweight, while other studies show that 25% of people in Kuwait suffer from diabetes or its complications.

What’s your blood type?

12 Oct

So, recently a friend told me about ‘The Blood Type Diet

I was a little unsure about it but it’s very, very interesting and could be worth some serious thought.

What if it was obvious what we should and should not eat. You can find your own diet plan for your blood type here

So, I’ve been doing some research and according to my blood type, which is A, I should be doing the following; Tai Chi and Yoga – interesting, calming exercises are a much better preference for me, running and intensive exercise is a huge no no.

So, here’s what the doctor has to say re; blood types and diet.

Type O-People with type O blood fare best on intense physical exercise and animal proteins and less well on dairy products and grains, says Dr. D’Adamo. The leading reason for weight gain among Type O’s is the gluten found in wheat products and, to a lesser extent, lentils, corn, kidney beans, and cabbage, Dr. D’Adamo explains. Ideal exercises for Type O’s include aerobics, martial arts, contact sports, and running.

Type A-Those with blood type A, however, are more naturally suited to a vegetarian diet and foods that are fresh, pure, and organic. As Type A’s are predisposed to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, “I can’t emphasize how critical this dietary adjustment can be to the sensitive immune system of Type A,” says Dr. D’Adamo. Type A’s prefer calming, centering exercise, such as yoga and tai chi.

Type B-Type B’s have a strong immune system and a tolerant digestive system and tend to resist many of the severe chronic degenerative illnesses, or at least survive them better than the other blood types. Type B’s do best with moderate physical exercise requiring mental balance, such as hiking, cycling, tennis, and swimming.

Type AB-Blood type AB, the most recent, in terms of evolution, of the four groups and an amalgam of types A and B, is the most biologically complex. For this group, a combination of the exercises for types A and B works best, says Dr. D’Adamo.

So, all a bit strange? Yes, perhaps but it might actually work. We’ll see………only time will tell.

Here is an example of a typical Type A diet plan

The wonderful uses of Sudocrem

6 Sep

Like most mums, I heart Sudocrem. It’s fantastic for sore bums, especially during teething! But, this post is not only for mums! You can be using it too! Even you, Noura 😛 I wouldn’t lie!

What exactly can you use Sudocrem for?

Well, I’ll tell you what I’ve tried and tested.

Burns- I once burnt my finger, it blistered pretty badly and looked real nasty. I applied a thin layer and a bandaid and next morning, the blister was right down and didn’t look very red at all.

Acne- I have been quite lucky, I haven’t had much trouble with my skin but Sudocrem is great for covering redness and blemishes.

Infantile eczema- fantastic for those dry patches on the arms and legs that are little ones get.

The general rule with Sudocrem is ‘apply a thin layer’ , ever heard the saying, ‘ a little really goes a long way’, well, when it comes to Sudocrem, you don’t need much!

What does it contain?

Sudocrem contains a number of ingredients and properties, such as:

  • hypoallergenic lanolin, to help provide emollient properties
  • zinc oxide is an astringent which reduces the loss of tissue fluid
  • benzyl benzoate and benzyl cinnamate are amongst the ingredients of Peru Balsam, recognised for its healing properties
  • benzyl alcohol is a weak local anaesthetic which acts to ease localised pain and irritation. It also acts as a disinfectant/antibacterial agent and is responsible for protection against common bacterial contaminants.

This is a cream that should be in EVERYONE’S first aid kit whether you have kids or not! Go get some now!

You can find this in any pharmacy, Boots and our favorite LuLu!

Although mums, be warned, keep out of reach of the kids or you may face something like this ……

8/9/2010 *UPDATE*

Got a reply from a follower on twitter..

Omg the rash on my cheeks is GONE! My face looks perfect thanks to @BabbleQ8‘s advice ;D *dances*

See………Sudocrem IS GREAT!
