A view of Harvey Nichols in London

Image via Wikipedia

Well, big news!! Harvey Nichols is coming to a mall near YOU! Harvey Nichols have announced the opening of its first store in Kuwait, with the help of the Middle East franchise operator Alshaya…thank you, Mr. AlShaya.

The store, which will be situated in Kuwait’s largest shopping destination, will cover over 10,000-square metres of retail space and will stock Harvey Nichols’ most popular brands and designer names. The store will also house the signature Fifth Floor Restaurant concept, which was originally created for the Knightsbridge flagship but is now synonymous with the Harvey Nichols name.

“Our own research and experience points to a strong market for the brands offered by Harvey Nichols,” Mohammed Alshaya, executive chairman of MH Alshaya Co, said as the partnership was announced.

Harvey Nichols, too, is hopeful that the union will be highly prosperous. Joseph Wan, the company’s chief executive, is “confident that Harvey Nichols will experience lasting success with Alshaya”.

The store is set to open its doors in spring/summer 2011.

OK, Now I have a request! Please, Mr.AlShaya BRING PRIMARK!! Thank you 🙂

Not just our tomatoes…there goes the Zubaidi too….

11 Oct

So, we aren’t only paying 800fils per kilo for tomatoes…our fish prices just soared too. When will this stop?

We are turning into the UK…soon Kuwait will be introducing tax.Look at the above picture, for those that don’t know the conversions…that’s around 2.2kd per kilo……..good aul harrods eh? Charging that much for French tomatoes………………LOL. Ridiculous.

Zubaidi is now sitting at about 12kd per kilo.

For goodness sake, it’s just fish!!!

So, we’re all to stop eating meat and ‘fruit’ (since Tomato is actually a fruit not a veg) and eat what exactly?

It’s green beans from here on in.

Perhaps we should all just try the baby diet………..pureed broccoli and potatoes.

You can read more about these price hiked here over at the Kuwait Times and another article, Zubaidi or Gold.

PAWS need YOU

28 Sep
PAWS needs all the help it can get!  Please pass the message on!!

PAWS is the oldest animal rescue centre in Kuwait. Started in 2004 by a group of willing volunteers it has grown over the years and has in its 5 years rescued thousands of animals from the streets of Kuwait. PAWS is now facing its biggest crisis since it opened its doors to the sick, homeless and injured animals of Kuwait in 2005. Come this November we have been ordered to vacate the property we have as our shelter in Wafra and as yet we and our hundred plus animals have no new shelter to go to.

A piece of land has kindly been donated by Sheik Nawaf Al Sabah but having plans drawn up and a shelter approved is just the first step, we simply do not have enough money to build the new shelter.
Paws need your help, if you can donate in any way or offer your services, contact PAWS Kuwait for more information.
Thanks to Snow for bringing this topic to light!

Japan clamps down on fat people

28 Sep

I’m not going to comment on this …ok, I am. WHAT THE FUCK?

Japan have now made it ‘illegal’ according to National Guidelines to have a waistline of more than 33”

see for yourself 🙂

I can totally understand why a government would try to make a healthier nation… but isn’t this taking things a little too far?

I’m back!

27 Sep

Sorry guys, completely mad weekend!

Kids sick and I had a fight with a blender.

All back to normal now though, well, almost. Typing with a bandaged thumb is proving quite difficult.

I want to be a penguin

20 Sep

Why can’t we all be like penguins?
Did you know? Penguins mate for life…it’s true. I always thought it was a myth but a good friend told me this morning, nope, it’s very true.
Last year, I went to see the penguins at Kuwait Aquarium, I was a little worried as it looked to me like they were dying…but I found out this morning, they were in fact, molting. They do that once a year. Basically, they lose all their feathers and get new ones.
Here is a picture I took last year, will definitely have to go soon and get an updated picture.

As seen in Vogue

15 Sep

In Japan, they are a symbol of ultimate feminity and in China, they represent eternal love… but to me, they represent, feminism, freedom and confidence.

I don’t know about you but I heart butterflies.

Van Cleef and Arpel have chosen every little girl’s favourite insect as the inspiration for the collection that they unveiled as part of Couture Week in Paris in January. The delightful Papillons pieces have taken hundreds of hours to create and are an ode to the delicate creatures that inspired them.

I think they are just beautiful, not that different from the ones we can find here for 12-20kd in the cute jewellery souqs. I bought quite a few when I got married in different colours but these are much, much nicer.

They also stock other jewellery. Their Bridal Collection is exceptionally beautiful………

So, where can I find this Boutique in Kuwait? Here comes the sad part, you can’t. There are 7 Boutiques in the Middle East and unfortunately, Kuwait isn’t one of them. UPDATE: They just opened up in Salhiya!!! 28/09/2010

I’d kill for a pair of those Jimmy Chuggs

23 Aug

So any kind soul out there who has a pair and needs a tester….here I am.

But seriously folks, it’s coming to that Eid time of year again- we need to go and battle the shoppers and I just can’t be bothered. I’m thinking of recycling some flares from the 70s this year and chopping one arm off a flowery shirt, and creating a whole new image.

Here are the places to avoid over the next two week nights in Kuwait, unless you are prepared to fight for that parking space:

360 Mall- do we even need to say that?

Avenues- unless you want to drive around and around and around and STILL end up at the IKEA entrance

Al Bairaq- aint nothin’ goin’ on there matey

Souk Sharq- and then pop over to Al Balad revolving restaurant for a quick snack, try the coriander and garlic french fries.

There’s a guy works down the chip shop swears he’s Elvis

Fish and chips, a popular take-away food of th...

So fish’n’chips has hit Kuwait- I remember a few years back there was one for a while near La Baguette in Salmiya- whatever happened it?

Anyway there are two places to head to this Ramadan for your chip buttie feast- Organica in Mangaf and Morning & Evening in Fahaheel-  the former charging 5KD for a portion of fish and chips and the latter only 1KD800…….take your pick. Eating out at Organica will set you back a staggering  25KD for a family meal- better be some damned good batter for that price.
